Backflow Testing & Certification

Certified testing, repair, and paperwork filed on your behalf — for homeowners, businesses, and property managers across the San Gabriel Valley.

The Short Version

What Backflow Testing Actually Is

A backflow preventer is a one-way valve on your water supply. It stops water from reversing direction and pulling contaminants — irrigation runoff, chemicals, boiler water — back into the drinking supply.

Like anything mechanical, it fails silently. That's why California requires these assemblies to be tested regularly by a certified tester, with the results reported to the water agency that serves you. It isn't a formality: a failed assembly on a commercial property is a genuine public health issue, and an unfiled report is a compliance problem regardless of whether the valve works.

If a notice showed up in your mail with a deadline on it, that's your water purveyor asking for this year's test. Send us a photo of the notice and we'll tell you exactly what it's asking for.

  • You run a restaurant, salon, medical, or dental office

The Process

What Happens When We Come Out

Most residential tests take under an hour. You don't need to be home if we can access the assembly.

1. We Schedule Around You

Tell us your deadline. We'll book a window that beats it — same-week appointments are usually available.

2. We Test the Assembly

Calibrated test equipment, brief water shutoff, full check of every valve and relief component.

3. We Repair if It Fails

Most failures are rebuildable on the spot. We'll quote the repair before touching anything, then retest.

4. We File the Report

The certification goes to your water purveyor, and a copy to you for your records. That's what closes the loop.

Who We Test For

Residential, Commercial & Multi-Property

Homeowners

Usually an irrigation system, a pool, or a fire line. One assembly, one visit, one report filed. We'll set a reminder for next year so the notice never catches you off guard again.

Businesses

Restaurants, salons, medical and dental offices, car washes, and manufacturing — the higher-hazard categories water districts watch closely. We test during hours that don't shut you down.

Property Managers & HOAs

Multiple addresses, one schedule, one invoice, one contact. We track every assembly's due date across your portfolio and handle the filings for all of them.

Backflow FAQ

What People Ask Us

How often do I need to test?

California's cross-connection control rules require backflow prevention assemblies to be tested by a certified tester at least annually, with results submitted to your water purveyor. Some districts require more frequent testing for higher-hazard properties. Your notice will state your specific deadline — and if you're unsure, we can confirm with your district.

What happens if I miss the deadline?

It varies by water district, but consequences typically escalate from reminder notices to penalties, and in some cases to water service being shut off until the property is brought into compliance. If your deadline is close or already passed, call us — we'll prioritize getting you tested and filed.

What if my assembly fails the test?

It's common, and usually not a crisis. Most failures come down to worn rubber parts that we can rebuild on site. We'll show you what failed, quote the repair before doing it, then retest and certify. If the assembly is too old or too corroded to rebuild, we'll price a replacement and explain why it's needed.

Do I need to be there for the test?

Not usually. As long as we can reach the assembly and briefly shut off water to that line, we can test, file, and email you the certification. For commercial properties we'll coordinate timing so the shutoff doesn't disrupt operations.

Do you file the report, or do I?

We do. That's the part people most often miss — a passing test that never reaches the water purveyor doesn't make you compliant. We submit the certification and send you a copy for your own records.

Can you test assemblies you didn't install?

Yes. We test, repair, and certify assemblies regardless of who installed them or who tested them last year.

Requirements vary by water purveyor. The information here is general guidance — your district's notice governs your specific deadline and obligations.
